Main Volumes

Since its foundation in 1920, the Society has published over 50 volumes in its main series, making available for the first time the texts of important source documents, ranging in date from the twelfth to the twentieth centuries. Each is edited by an expert in the relevant field who also supplies a scholarly but readable introduction and other critical apparatus. Amongst the many sources covered are:

  • From the medieval period, registers of the county’s major monastic foundations
  • From the early modern period, the minutes and accounts of the Stratford-upon-Avon Corporation, 1553-1620, the county’s Hearth Tax returns of 1671, and records relating to the Great Fire of Warwick, 1694
  • From the 18th century, the diaries of the ‘gentleman architect’ Sanderson Miller and the 18th-centry correspondence of Sir Roger Newdigate of Arbury.

Many other volumes are currently in active preparation and the General Editor welcomes proposals for additions to the Society’s main publishing programme.
